Independence Day......Jai Hind

Happy Independence Day to one and all…..Today we are celebrating our 63rd Independence Day ….. On this significant day for each and every Indian one thought which had been lingering in the back of my mind for  many years now raised his head ones again to leave that confusion ,that dilemma all over again……The question being “ Importance of Independence day in the lives of young Indians” or this question can also be framed in a different way i.e. “ How much value this day holds in the lives of common Indian man”. Today for the first time in the past three years of my stay at this place I was late for the Independence day celebration and when I reached , The National Anthem had already started and we were forced to sing it on the gate only.. Though I was actually right on time but the function got started a little early, but I know that is no excuse as I unfeignedly believe in punctuality and reaching to your destination before time , but yes today was an exception..Reaching there late didn’t bother me as such but what it did , it forced me to think about my attitude and my sincerity towards this auspicious day and towards my Nation and to retrospect on few things…

It wasn’t the first time when I missed or skipped such functions….. Back in my school days I use to view this day as a potential holiday until and unless I was not forced to go to school either by my teachers ( as I was supposed to lead the assembly most of the time , so being the leader you have to lead by example) or by my parents……. But as my parents never forced anything on me , so mostly it was from school’s side…….. Then in the senior secondary I more than often mustered reason good enough to remain at home for the entire day……. Though later I used to get quite a good lambasting from my Tauji but I was always ready with my well rehearsed reasons and also counter question…….. You might me wondering what could be these enquiries with which I used to shield myself …… Well some of them where like---- Does by going there and singing National Anthem we become more patriotic or does it show that we really value this hard earned Independence and are we really straining ourselves to protect it by being a good , responsible citizen or not……. I have always been a strong advocate of not publicising your feeling about anything be it your girl friend or for the fact Nation.. If you really care or respect anything than demonstrate it by your actions rather than by going gaga about it wherever you find any opportunity…… At that time these where just the questions that worked as scapegoat for me and helped to save me from the wrath of all those who didn’t take my actions very sportingly ……

But today when I am here alone and there is no one to grumble over me , I was forced to introspect and give a second thought to all those reasons and counter questions….. I am still in a quandary and haven’t managed to come up with an answer to the question about the importance of this day and about the way young coevals treat this day ,including me……….

Thanks

Rishabh

  1. well I did not attended the function so i do not have the right to comment.but yes, I think the emotions are generally not explicit if they are true. and definately serving your country is not just be in army or in politics or attending those functions for refreshment. To pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom can be by working for any thing which ultimately work for prosperity of our country.

  2. yeah,I m also late.
But unlike rishabh I have never miss the function in school time.
Because in my neighbourhood ,there was two three small school which used to practice for this day.
They do march past , sing many patriotic song(on loud speaker),which empower me.
By attending we admire and feel the importance of the great soul of the country.
